Premium travel attractions and car rental firms? In 18th and 19th-century Paris, there were lots of glass-roofed shopping galleries in areas around the Grands Boulevards. These covered passages – essential precursors to the modern-day shopping centre – allowed you to take shortcuts, escape the elements or (ooh la la!) steal a forbidden kiss with your lover in relative privacy. Somewhat less romantically, most passages were also given a salon de decrottage: a room where the dog excrement you’d trodden through was scraped off your shoes. These days, the passages couverts are perfect little hideaways for an afternoon’s retail therapy.
Meandering streets connecting stone houses in a small marina to form a charming town with breathtaking sweeping views of the Adriatic Sea – Bol is one of the top places to visit in Croatia. It is where the iconic shape-shifting pebble beach called the Zlatni Rat beach resides. The beach protrudes out into the sea and changes shape as and when the wind changes. The beach offers plenty of water activities like sunbathing, swimming, windsurfing, and more… And the charming promenade lined with trees running between the town and beach at Bol makes Croatia travel a lifetime’s experience.
Barcelona – Sagrada Familia: The massive Roman Catholic church in Barcelona, Spain is officially titled the Basicila i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Familia. The many jutting and pointed towers including the Tower of the Virgin Mary make this building one of the world’s tallest religious buildings. Berlin – Berlin Wall: While the original Berlin Wall dividing this German city may have fallen in 1989, the city has never forgotten the connection to the Cold War. Today visitors go to see the East Side Gallery that is an open-air memorial dedicated to international freedom.

The Anne Frank House is a must-see when in Amsterdam. On Prinsengracht, in the home where Anne’s family hid for much of WWII (they were Jewish refugees from Frankfurt), is where this remarkable girl wrote her famous diary. Although she died just two months before the war ended, her legacy lives on through her words, which have since been translated into 51 languages. The back of the fully-restored house where the Frank family had their hiding place has been kept in its original state as much as possible and is a poignant monument to a tragic slice of world history and a brave young woman who continues to inspire people around the globe. A word of caution: tickets for this must-see attraction do sell out, so be sure to reserve yours online well ahead of time.
The capital town and harbor of the island is Kalymnos, or Pothia as it is also known. It is a very picturesque small town with a great deal of traditional architecture. There are many renovated neoclassical buildings that perfectly blend with the modern houses and villas that were built here. It is well worth visiting the Nautical Museum where you can see exhibits of sea sponges and the story of the importance that they played in the history and development of the island.
